According to the Paris Agreement, the maximum permitted warming is 1.5°C. But in the absence of significant action and adequate measures, the Earth is heading for a warming of 2.6 to 2.9°C by 2100 with catastrophic consequences for the climate and biodiversity. Last November, the failed climate summit in Sharm-el-Sheikh made it painfully clear that governments are willing to make very few commitments to successfully close the huge ambition gap between 'Paris' and existing policies.
